Wild Wings

Late this morning, hubby was gazing out the window looking into the woods when he said there was a bird of a different feather in a tree.

So we both looked and looked trying to figure out what it was.  Finally, we decided to get a closer look.

Can you guess what it is?  This is a bird that we have never seen in our neck of the woods. (Pardon the pun). ;-)

Wait, were did he go?

There he (I pretty sure he is a she) is!  A wild turkey!  Honey, grab the shotgun!  We're havin' us some drumsticks tonight!  JUST KIDDING!  She decided to go for a little stroll.  Checking out the neighborhood a bit.

Wait a minute!  Don't go!  I was only kidding about "grabbing-the-shotgun-and-having-drumsticks-for-dinner"!  Please come back!  We're vegetarian! (At least for a day, anyway).

Isn't that cool?!  You see, we live right in the middle of a subdivision in the middle of town.  So to see this kind of wildlife is a treat.  Actually, the end of our subdivision borders an adjoining township with a farmers field and woods.  Since it is turkey hunting season, hubby thinks maybe it was spooked by hunters and made it's way into town.  They are smart and know where it is safe.

I hope she comes back.  I miss her already.

  4. Hi Mary! A few years ago, I just happened to look out the window and I'm wondering, "Who's dog is that?". Turned out to be a red fox! I'm such a doofus! lol!

  8. One year we had guinea hens in our yard for several days. Had to look up what they were! We figure they must have made an escape from a farm. So much fun to see something unusual in the yard, isn't it?

  11. That is very cool! Did you know the turkey is the largest flying bird? Good eats too! We had twin fawns last year and I looked forward to seeing them every day.
