The Best Day of My Life

I felt exhausted and dazed, numb from the waist down.  Frankly, I felt like I was run over by a semi.

It was also the best day of my life.

This is the day that two people in love became parents.  Great parents became grandparents.  Siblings became aunts and uncles.  And another branch grew on the Family Tree.

The day you were born.

I had had a hard time bringing you into the world.  I can honestly say that I know without a doubt why labor is called labor.  It is hard work bringing a child into the world.  But it is something that women have been doing since creation.  And I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Since I had not slept in, oh, 36 hours or so and I had spent the last three hours working really, really hard to help you into this world, I was whisked off to an operating room and you were delivered by cesarean.  When your dad showed you to me and I looked at your sweet, little face, I couldn't believe that you were mine.  I had a baby!  Me?  A mom?  This is something I had dreamed of my entire life.

During those first few hours, I was exhausted and in a daze and it didn't really sink in that this newborn baby could possibly be mine.  The next morning after catching up on a little bit of sleep, I felt more like myself.  I remember the exact moment that it did finally sink in that this baby in the bassinet next to my bed was mine.  You looked directly at me.  Looked me right in the eye.  This feeling of absolute love, one that is heaven sent, washed over me.  This love is one of the most powerful.

It is a mother's love.

As strong as my love for you was then, it has only gotten more stronger and powerful.  I cannot believe that anything can diminish it.  There may be things that happen in this life to make you question it.  But nothing can take away unconditional love.

Happy Birthday To You, Sweet Boy!  You are becoming an even finer young man than I could have imagined.  I am so blessed that God saw fit to assign me as your mom.  I can speak for your dad that he feels the exact same way.

We love you so, so much!

Love,

Mom and Dad
